Hello, everyone,

You should identify one topic/subject from \”1984\” that interest you. For example, the dangers of authoritarianism/totalitarianism; government control of reproductive rights; government propaganda and fake news; prejudice toward working-class citizens; institutionalized bigotry/racism/anti-semitism; etc.

In the INTRO briefly describe 3-4 specific scenes from the book that illustrate this subject. Include one direct quote from the book.

In the THESIS identify Orwell\’s attitude/opinion/insight toward this subject. Then describe your own attitude/opinion/insight toward the subject. Do you agree/disagree with Orwell\’s views? Why/why not?

In the SYNTHESIS you should summarize/evaluate one chapter from \”1984\” that best describes this subject. Then you should summarize/evaluate 1 essay/editorial/article that deals with this subject. The idea here is to show me how \”1984\” applies to today\’s world. Make sure you include one long quote in one of the summaries.

In the CONCLUSION you should re-state your thesis in new words and provide additional information drawn from \”1984\” or from your research.

Include a Works Cited page. You really only need 2 sources this time–\”1984\” and the outside source you use in the synthesis.

All of the other rules still apply–MLA format, basic rules of writing, in-text citations, grammatical formulas, etc.
