In groups students will discuss a Native Americans group that is not widely reflected in mainstream society or a group that you would like to learn more about. Some examples may include but are not limited to lesbian parents, African American Jews, biracial children, migrant students, trans-gendered students, black Indians, etc.
-Presentations will be 20-25 minutes and will answer the following questions.
1. Currently, how many individuals of this particular group exist in the U.S.?
2. What current or historical information do students need to know to better understand this particular group?
3. What assumptions or stereotypes does this group face? Why?
4. What drawbacks and/or benefits does this group experience from the current U.S. educational system?
5. Who are some individuals belonging to this particular group may be considered as positive role models? Who are they? What do they do?
-Groups should provide the class with a one-page handout (single space) summarizing the presentation and providing the sources used. Be creative and engage us!
