Requirement Overview: Each student will select a topic relevant to the states social, economic, historical or political processes. The length of the research paper is 4 5 pages of text. (The cover page and the bibliography/reference/works cited page DO NOT count.) The Publications Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA) must be used as the style guide for format and citations.
Research Ethics: Plagiarism, simply put, is extracting any type of information from a source without acknowledgement. Therefore, it is illegal as well as unethical to borrow or copy information from a source without citing it. Sources must be cited in the text as well as in the reference page. Otherwise, a failing grade will be given! Sources for research purposes include textbooks, scholarly journals (either published as a hard copy or electronic), the Internet, and articles from nationally well-known newspapers. The bibliography/reference page must contain at least three sources.
Font Style and Format: Recommended font size is 12 for Arial, Courier New, and Times New Roman. Students must maintain one-inch top, bottom, left, and right margins throughout. The research paper must be typed and double-spaced in its entirety.
Contrasting Points-of-View: In the world of political science, there will always be contrasting views. Hence, when researching issues, present two positions and then establish your opinion on which one, you believe, represents your ideology. So personal opinions will be presented in your research paper.
