Chapter 8: Scenario 3
The applicant was safe under PDA which prohibits an employer to discriminate a pregnant woman for a position. It is also illegal to treat pregnant woman differently if they can perform the tasks related to that position. The employer in this scenario was wrong therefore should be penalized if she decides to make a case about the injustice.
Chapter 12: Scenario 1
It is completely unfair and illegal to discriminate current employees because of their age. As well as not consider their knowledge but instead see them as a bigger expense figure compared to fresh graduates simply because of seniority. When positions open and they are more than qualified to be interviewed or even acknowledged that a spot up in management opened up in the company, many employees dont even know that their current employer is seeking higher paying jobs. The fact that companies rather pay less qualified and inexperienced graduates for certain positions when they have great experienced eligible employees that should also have an opportunity to improve the company is completely unfair. Instead of becoming a burden to the firm they should find new innovative ways to promote stronger relationships within companies in order to grow. (Hartman, 2015)
