Discuss the sound of the poem

Please write a three page (minimum) essay analyzing The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner by Randall Jarrell(Papers less than a FULL three pages will receive a failing grade).

A thesis is to an essay what a theme is to a short story, play, or poem: the governing idea
or claim. An essay about a literary work needs to have only one thesis that is explicitly
stated in one to three sentences, usually at or near the end of the introduction. Your thesis
should be debatablea claim that all readers will not automatically accept. It is a
proposition you can prove with evidence from the literary text, yet it is one you have to prove, that is not obviously true or factual. (Mays 1892)

The paper you write about a poem or poems is an argument. Make sure that you have something specific that you want to say about the poem you are discussing. This specific argument that you want to make about the poem will be your thesis. You will support this thesis by drawing examples and evidence from the poem itself. (Purdue OWL)

For this paper, consider exploring the poem(s) you selected from one of the following perspectives:

Study the poems diction
Examine the poems imagery
Identify the poems figures of speech
Discuss the sound of the poem
Look at the poems form
Consider the poems use of symbol, allegory, allusion, or myth
Consider the poems theme
Cultural context
Versification (rhyme and meter)

When quoting three or fewer lines of poetry, put the quotation in quotation marks, and use a slash mark (/) with a space on either side to indicate any line break that occurs in the quotation, and a double slash mark (//) to indicate a stanza break (Mays 1936).

When quoting more than three lines, indent the quotation inch from the left margin to create a block quotation. Reproduce original line and stanza breaks and spatial arrangement (Mays 1936).
