Introduction. Example of what is needed. (Since the invention of mobile devices, distracted driving vehicle accidents are on a rise in the United States. Many drivers rely on their cell phone to not only connect with family and friends but also conduct business on their smart phone. It is argued that state laws should be more strict with individuals who feel the need to text and drive or use social apps to record what they are doing while they are driving a motor vehicle. Distracted driving caused estimates from the NHTSA from 2011 to 2015 showed that at least 10% of fatal crashes and 17% of severe injuries from crashes. Regardless of the number of TV adds showing the devastation of texting and driving accidents continue to happen due to distracted drivers using their cell phones.
This paper will argue that more should be done about distracted drivers but not just though tougher laws but in addition with education. . This is supported by a growing literature on the fatality of distracted driving and the possible interventions that can be carried out (Klauer et al., 2014; Overton, Rives, Hecht, Shafi, & Gandhi, 2015; Rumschlag et al., 2015).
